Pivots missing and inacurate
hi, i trade fx and have two charts open for each pair that i trade, one is a 7 range and one is a 23 range. i have daily and weekly fib pivots on each. i'm constantly having troubles with my pivots levels. the pivot levels show at different levels on each chart (e.g. the daily pivot point level may be at 1.6300 on the 7 range and at 1.6335 on the 23 range chart). it's the same pair with the same data feed (gain demo), so the levels should be identicle. also the weekly pivots dissapear for no reason frequently, on both the 7 range and the 23 range. when i open the indicators box they're there, but not showing on the chart. any suggestions as to what i can do to fix this?Tags: None

Hello Ben Sweet,
Can you please tell me what settings you use for the Pivots indicator. Do you calculate the values from intra day data in the chart?
Do the Pivot values match, if you enter CHL manually?
The charts most likely use a different a different High, Low or Close value.
As per the weekly Pivots what setting is used for 'Auto-scale'. Use the opposite setting and check again.JasonNinjaTrader Customer Service

Hi Jason,
thanks for the reply. my settings are;
merge 1st session - true
pivot range type - weekly
prior day HLC - daily bars
use open price - true
auto scale - false
calculate on bar close - false
debug mode - false
if i change the auto scale to true the pivots appear and match on both charts, but they don't appear to be correct as they are all inside the daily pivots (the weekly S3 is above the daily S3 and the weekly R3 is below the daily R3). i would have thought that the larger range of the week would mean that the weekly pivots would spread higher and lower than the daily pivots.
i haven't tried entering the CHL values myself.
thanks

I just tried entering the HLC values manually and the pivots spread higher and lower as i would have expected weekly pivots to do, but the values are still different on both charts of the same pair. the support and resistance lines ar out by 3 or 4 pips which is no big deal, but the main pivot is different by 12.6 pips. the dail pivots are out on both charts by a couple of pips too.

the connection is gain demo. the instrument is gbpjpy on both 7 range and 23 range. i also have the same issue with other fx pairs and also on other chart templates (range charts and 5 minute charts) the fib pivots at the moment as calculated by ninja (values not manually set) for gbpjpy are;
7 range
daily fib pivots
pp 146.27
s1 145.63
s2 145.24
s3 144.65
r1 146.92
r2 147.31
r3 147.95
weekly fib pivots
pp 144.65
s1 143.82
s2 143.30
s3 142.47
r1 145.48
r2 146.00
r3 146.92
my weekly pivots have a smaller range than my daily pivots which i don't think could be right.
23 range
daily fib pivots
pp 146.28 (close enough to 7 range)
s1 145.64 (close enough to 7 range)
s2 145.24 (close enough to 7 range)
s3 144.60 (close enough to 7 range)
r1 146.92 (close enough to 7 range)
r2 147.31 (close enough to 7 range)
r3 147.96 (close enough to 7 range)
weekly fib pivots
pp 144.24 (41 pips fifferent)
s1 142.62 (way different)
s2 141.01 (way different)
s3 138.41 (way different)
r1 147.82 (way different)
r2 149.42 (way different)
r3 152.03 (way different)
my guess is that the weekly pivots are closer to being right due to the wider spread between them. these are YTR Fibonacci pivots from www.yourtradingroom.com. the settings are mentioned earlier in this thread but i can give you any other info you need.
thanks
ben.

Pivots and range bars......
Hi Ben,
I do not know how the pivots you use are calculated, but pivots on range bars are never exact, if they are calculated from intraday data. This is because range bars in NT 6.5. override session breaks. Do expect a typical error of 1/3 range chosen.
If you want exact pivots, you need to calculate them from daily data. This is only possible, if you data supplier supplies daily data.
Just checked the formula, should be the same as used by the SessionPivot indicator. You can set it to Fibonacci Pivots via indicator panel. In DailyBars mode will give exact pivots, in CalcFromIntradayData it will produce errors of about 1/3 range with range bars, as explained above.
