Fatal Error during installation - problem with shortcut error

Hi,

I have installed NT6 on successfully on 3 machines (all with Vista and min 2gb ram etc) but when I try to install it on my laptop I consistently get the following error:

Fatal Error during installation - problem with shortcut

I am able to download it from the NT site, install it fine, BUT when I doubleclick on the icon on the desktop I get this error. Its not exactly that helpful either.

I tried to browse the NT folders in program files but it wont let me in even though I have full admin rights for this computer.

Anyone else have this error. I also downloaded the latest and prior versions of the installer (using both IE and FFox) and still have the same error.

Any advice would be great as its really annoying me at this stage!

Thank you for your note.

Please follow the steps listed below to completely uninstall and reinstall NinjaTrader:

• Close all running applications.
• Then from the Start menu select --> Control Panel --> Add and Remove Programs.
• From Add and Remove Programs select NinjaTrader 6.5 and click Remove.
• Then manually delete the folder "NinjaTrader 6.5" located under Start --> My Documents.
• Delete any NinjaTrader installation files. This can be done by going to Start --> My Computer --> Search button --> search for (NinjaTrader*) --> select Local C Disk and then press search.
• Then you will need to clear your internet browser cache and history. You will clear this from within your internet browser (with IE, Tools-->Options, delete cookies and files, clear history).
• Reboot your machine.
• Once these steps are completed, download NT6.5 from the link below:

Please let us know if you are able to get up and running after the reinstall.

Thanks for advice Christopher but I did all that and still wont work - still get the fatal error during installation.

Anyone have an idea what it could be?

Hello mcirl2,

That you can't access the 'Program Files\NinjaTrader' directory might indicate some larger system issues.

Have you tried running some of the built in Windows utilities like chkdsk or defrag?
