Synchronizing multiple user logins to the Pats server

    Hi,

We have multiple user logins to the Pats server on NT for the same account and we use these logins on separate machines. NT does not seem to synchronize trades/positions between the 2 computers. When I connected to NT on one computer this morning, it showed trades/positions from yesterday, which is totally different from the data showing up on the other computer, which shows current data.

    Thanks,
    Anitha

    Hello Anitha,

Unfortunately this is as expected. Trade history is saved in the database. Trades made on one PC will be saved in the database on that PC only.

You could transfer databases by creating a backup file and restore it on the other PC. The database contains trade history, ATM templates and saved chart data. Instructions the create a backup file can be found at the link below.

The backup file will be located at (My) Documents-->NinjaTrader Backup.

Transfer this file to the same location on the other PC and restore it.

Is it possible to merge 2 databases? Or have the database stored in Dropbox (cloud data sync service) and share it between both computers?

          claxxical,

          Thank you for your post.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to merge multiple databases together. You could move the database between your two PC's.

You'll find the database in the Documents > NinjaTrader 6.5 > DB folder. The database itself will be named 'NinjaTrader.mdb'.

              claxxical,

This could be possible, but would be a manual process.

This would require you to add executions to the other installation by right clicking in the Executions tab, selecting Add, then filling out the window which appears.

Depending on the number of executions that need to be added, this may or may not be feasible for you.

I meant syncing through Dropbox, or another cloud-based service..

Basically share the database as a single file between 2 computers. Since you can only use one license on 1 computer at any given time, any updates made from one computer will be automatically updated to the 2nd computer since they share the same database file that's synced through the cloud.

                  claxxical,

This is technically possible, but has not been tested on our end and is not officially supported. I would not recommend moving the NinjaTrader.MDB file outside of its original My Documents\NinjaTrader 6.5\db\ directory. If you can use a utility to share this file without moving it to another folder, it would be more likely to work.

You are free to give it a shot and we would be happy to read your results posted in this thread, however we would be limited on the support we could offer beyond this point.

                    Hi Anitha,

This is one where you might want to take advantage of your broker's infrastructure. Make him earn those commissions! He can create sub accounts in PATs that should have their own user ID, P&L, position limits, etc. tied to your Master account.

That will also make daily trade reconciliation easier.
