Performance/Design Question

I'm considering upgrading a home-built computer I use for trading from one that has one or two Dual-Core Intel® Xeon®Processor 5200/5100/5000 CPUs to using one or two Quad-Core Intel® Xeon®[COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important]Processor[/COLOR][/COLOR] 5400/5300 CPUs.
Basically, I'm trying to determine if the price to upgrade will be worth the potential performance upgrade.

The obvious question: Has NT been designed to make use of multiple threads? If so, have you done any testing with results you can share? Typical number of threads? Does each chart, automated strategy, and instrument data feed use separate threads? Is there a limit of threads you use?

Thank you for your forum post.

NinjaTrader 6.5 is not coded to take full advantage of dual cores with separate threads, however you will still see a performance increase from the increased processing power of a dual core or quad core processor.

NinjaTrader 7 which is in the later stages of beta testing and should be released soon, has been upgraded to take advantage of multiple cores.

As NinjaTrader 7 is still in beta there is no testing information that I can offer on this as we do not have a final product for release yet. You can however visit this page updated personally by our CEO for the latest release information on NinjaTrader 7 and its features.
