Chart Trader Stop Orders Executing Late

NT, I am sim trading, NT7 Beta 13.

I had entered the market with stops above and below the trades.

The market jumped on news and the market ran past my stops.

There was no execution of stops until 2 to 3 minutes later.

Attached is a chart showing stops executing 15 ticks above the stops themselves as the market pulled back.

Aren't the stops suppose to become market orders when touched???

Can you explain this for me.

    Thanks,

    RJay

    Hello,

    Thank you for your note.

By default stop limits are used for stop orders. This can be changed by right clicking on the superDOM and going to properties. There you will see the option for stop market for stop loss orders, set this to true and see the disclaimer in the details sections for when this property is ignored.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

OK, I understand about the orders themselves. default is limit order for stops.

Any explanation as to why the stops executed 15 pips above their positions?

        Thanks,

It hard to say from just looking at the chart. However this explination may solve this for you. How the stop limits work is for a stop loss is that once the market price is touched a stop limit order is placed 5 points below your stop price or above in your case if your short. 5 points is equal to 20 tick limit price used on the ES for example. With some instances where there are less ticks in 1 point the stop limit price could move closer or farther away depending on the isntrument you are using. This could explain why you got filled there since this would have been the limit price used for the stop.
