    Overlaying Indicators

I know we can overlay indicators over the price panel, but this makes the indicator plot on top of the price data. Is there anyway to make the price data plot stay in the foreground on top of the indicator so as to not be covered up by dots and such?

You could reconstruct the price candles in your own indicator like HeikenAshi/ModHeikenAshi. That would give you the effect you were after. Getting them to look identical would be a nice override Plot class challenge.

Mm yes but that is a rather inefficient solution. Not only would NinjaTrader be drawing the same thing twice, it would also become necessary to pay attention to the order in which indicators are loaded to make sure the price one is the one top.

Yes, its evil, but may be the only option. Lets hope not.

Unfortunately this is not supported at this time. We'll add it to our list of future considerations.

            Overlay indicators

This is a big deal for me and the only thing keeping me from using NT as my charting platform.

              Hi gdargento,

It is possible with some custom coding of the indicator. See these two indicators I whipped together awhile back that overlays them over the price panel.

                Overlaying indicators

                Thanks Josh.

This will help with the one indicator I want to overlay on top of price. I'd like to be able to do the same on the bottom pane. For example overlay volume on top of a MACD.

                Any ideas?

I haven't tried it but I think you can just load these indicators onto panel 2 and it should work if MACD is on panel 2.

You can put both indicators in the same panel, but it won't produce the display you want because VOL and MACD scale differently.

Since the values for MACD are in the range of +1 to -1 (more or less) and the values of VOL can be in the hundreds or thousands, or more, if you put both in the same panel, then only the VOL ends up showing (unless its a very lightly traded instrument).

Can you put each one in its own panel? That seems to work well.

                      KBJ,

The idea of overlaying is to normalize the axis of the charts so it doesn't matter what scale they are on. Unfortunately it would appear the current overlay indicators I produced won't allow you to overlay over another indicator on panel 2 because I hardcoded it to calculate the scale on panel 1 only.

Without a doubt this is possible if coded the right way so if anyone is feeling up to it they could take a shot at it and I'm sure many community members would appreciate it.

                        Overlay indicators

Thanks guys...NT says this is on their list of enhancements so I'll wait until then.

                          MACD Overlay?

Jpsh, thanks for the overlay downloads you've provided here for the STO and RSI. Any chance you've got one for the MACD?

                            Unfortunately not at the moment.
