Importing Data not showed on Chart

    Hi,

I'm new to NT and doing my first steps which look promising.

I have uploaded successfully ES data named 'ES 03-10.txt' .
When I tried to view the data in the chart, the chart is empty.
How can I view that the data stored correctly and what is the instrument symbol?

    Thanks in advance,
    Roy

    Hello freewind,

    Thank you for your post.

Can you please tell me what version of NinjaTrader you currently have installed which can be found under Help-->About.

What type of data did you import i.e. Tick, Minute or Daily? Please paste in a few lines of you data so I may verify the format is correct.

What time interval chart are you attempting to open?

How many days worth of data did you import?

Also please confirm you are selecting the ES 03-10 contract when opening your chart and have the correct Start and Last date being used for the data you have imported.

I look forward to assisting you further with this issue.

      Thanks for the quick reply.

After reading your post I managed to see the data in the chart!

What I'm not fully understand is the relationship between the file name and the instrument. For example if I mistakenly changed the file name to different contract month can I view the data on chart?
      What about stocks?

      Tx,
      Roy

Glad to hear you were able to bring up your chart.

If you use the correct symbol but another expiry date this would import the data however you would need to use the correct Start and Last date when creating the chart for the dates you have imported. Also

When importing data for Equities you will only be required to name the file for the specific instrument such as AAPL since this instrument does not have an expiry like a Futures contract.

I have provided a link below to our Help Guide that goes over Importing Data and the format required.

          Tx.

          I still don't understand something.
I managed to load the chart only when I use the correct symbol(in my case ES 03-10) and chose the start/end dates. When I chose the 'Days back' option nothing was shown.
          Is it the correct behavior?

          Regards,
          Roy

When selecting Bars back please be sure to select the correct Last date to correspond with the imported data.

I'm having a similar problem, NT does not update the new historical data after I've imported an adapted text file of NVDA.

I downloaded the original text file from yahoo, changed the data and then I've imported the file in NT 6.5 (it also says: "succesfully imported").

When I try to open a new chart of NVDA, NT still shows the original values of NVDA (before I've imported the new file).

I've also tried the "reload data" button, but the chart keeps displaying the same old data.

              Any help?

Please delete your NVDA hisorical data by disconnecting-->Tools-->Historical Data-->Delete. Next please import you NVDA data into NinjaTrader then open a new chart with no template applied and let me know if the issue persists.

Glad to hear that did the trick.

                    Have a great day!

                      Using NT 6.5.1000.15 here..

I'm also having trouble viewing imported futures data. Here's one of many futures files (I have about 30 of these files for various futures markets) I have for example which is built by TickWrite (historical tick software by http://www.tickdata.com/) and which I made sure conforms to NinjaTrader naming and file content formatting. What TickWrite does for me is build up the continuous contract for me all in one file:

                      NG ##-##.txt

                      Code:
                      06/21/2010 19:03:49 C:\Users\TickData\NinjaTrader
                      +> head '.\NG ##-##.txt' 10
                      Head of file .\NG ##-##.txt for 10 lines: [1..10]

                      20060102 190008;18.831;2
                      20060102 190008;18.831;3
                      20060102 190008;18.831;2
                      20060102 190011;18.781;3
                      20060102 190014;18.781;2
                      20060102 190045;18.831;1
                      20060102 190105;18.83;5
                      20060102 190110;18.781;1
                      20060102 190122;18.829;7
                      20060102 190246;18.811;4
This file spans many years - from Jan 2006 thru December 2008. I followed directions indicated for futures import via your help file. NG symbol exists. I'm trying to upload this data into the NG ##-## "contract" as its a continuous "synthetic" contract created by TickWrite software. After I get dialog that says everything imported fine, trying to view the NG ##-## contract just shows empty chart. I made sure chart spans from 2006 thru 2008. Completely blank whether connected or disconnected to Zen-Fire feed.

Note, I was able to get this exact same "NG ##-##.txt" file to import and display properly with NT 7, so I suspect that this is a import bug/limitation of NT 6.5 at this point.
