Measuring lenght of historic data in an instrument

    Hi everyone,

Does anyone around here know how to measure the length of historic data in an instrument ?

I have integrated many histories but I do not remember their periods and I would like to be able to test that: get an answer of how many bars I have, which periods or something similar.

    Thanks an advance

    Hello Takis Takis,

    Thank you for your post.

Are you referring to measuring the number of bars within your chart window? If so within NinjaTrader 7 you may use the Measuring Tool which can be found within the Drawing Object drop down window. To use this tool please select-->Left mouse click where you would like the measurement to begin-->Left mouse click where you would like it to end-->move your mouse to a spot where you would like the information box and left mouse click again.

I have provided a link below to our Help Guide that goes over Drawing Tools and Objects.

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

      Well

      Thanks Christopher,

I have said it before but I will say it again and again that the speed of your responses just rocks!

While your answer learned me something I didnt know, my question was more aimed at learning how to confirm whether a given instrument has historic data or not.

I downloaded quite many but I do not remember which ones are !

Within the sttrategy analyzer at the left i have a long list of instruments. However, among them there are some that I have not downloaded history and I do not aim at doing either.

All I want to know is which of my instruments do have historic data and if possible to know how long their history is , PRIOR attempting a strategy backtesting.

I hope I managed to explain my thoughs better this time

Kind Regards and again thanks for answering so fast the previous one!

Thank you for the kind words. The only way to really check how much historical data you have manually is to either open a chart of the instrument to verify or if you are running NinjaTrader 7 you can go to Tools-->Historical Data Manager-->Edit tab and view all data that is available.
