    Optimizer Stops Mid-way

    I backtest and optimize strategies continually. Lately, I have not been able to finish any simple optimizing as it stops mid-way through and just hangs.

    Does old optimizations place a permanent drag on system resources?
    Is ongoing backtesting & optimizing being stored somewhere?

    Any recommendations to return my NT6.5 to original operating speed?

    Thank you for your forum post.

    Can you please goto My Documents->NinjaTrader 6.5->db-> and right click on the NinjaTrader.mdb(or just NinjaTrader) file or NinjaTrader file and select properties and let me know what size this file is reported to be.

      Thank you for quick response. Not at my NT workstation currently so I don't have size data. But I have previously gone in and renamed that file a few times attempting to "start over". Does that help? Currently, it is much smaller than the previous ones.

          Yes, currently it is almost unuseable due to time length in completing any type of optimization or once optimization is complete, attempting to click to various tabs. (i.e. moving from Trades to Charts may take 15 minutes...spinning wheel).

          Most of my strategies involve RENKO charts (which admittedly involve enormous amounts of tick data). However, in the beginning, things ran very smoothly. It seems that after a few months, all strategy testing times exponentially raise to almost standstill.

          So, I thought maybe there is some method to return NT to original state as if I am starting on day 1.

                  Hello,

                  There is a bug with Renko charts on 7 currently. Thats will cause it to randomely freeze and take up tons of RAM. Development is currently looking into. I believe this is most likely what you are running into. As a test remove all renko charts from your workspaces and restart NinjaTrader then do a backtest on a minute chart does this go quicker?

                    Thanks again. As I said, I am only using NT 6.5. And I have always used renko bars in 6.5, no problem. But every few months, it freezes up while backtesting

                      Hello,

                      Gotcha, I only read your last response where you said you had NT7 on your desktop.

                      Can you please send a note to support at ninjatrader dot com then from the application and include your log and trace files and the last time it locked up?

                      Also, can you please still do the test of using minute and tick bars to test also. As renko bars are not included in NT 6.5 and is a downloaded add on, Since this is not our code I am unsure of the issues you may or may not run into with Renko on 6.5.
