Historical Data and Instrument Manager (old contracts)

How does one add older contracts to the instrument manager?
My current only goes back to 09-09 and then there's ##-## which doesn't seem to do much. What happens if I want to see 03-09 (last years March contract)?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello 8DTK8,

    Thank you for your post.

To see these symbols in the chart drop-down menu, you will need to add them to your ‘default’ instrument list.

For adding symbols to the NinjaTrader ‘default’ list, please do the following:
    1. Select the list you wish to add an instrument to
    2. Select a master instrument in the instrument grid
    3. Depending on the instrument type, parameter drop down lists will become enabled. In the above example, the ES futures contract is selected which prompts you to enter the Exchange and Expiry parameters.
    4. Press the left arrow button.

    Here is the reference link:

Please let me know if this does not resolve the issue.

      Thanks Chip.

I was more wondering what to do when the list of dates does not go back far enough.

As seen in my earlier question: What do you do when you want a contract where the date is before the earliest available in the pulldown list?

As you can see in my screen shot, the earliest the contract goes is 09-09. I would like to see contracts before that. 03-09 for example.

      Thanks

        Hello 8DTK8,

Unfortunately, the Instrument Manager will only list expiries up to about a year ago.

However, you can set your PC clock temporarily to a date back in time, which allows you to select expiries as per the new date. Make sure NinjaTrader is closed and set your PC clock to a date back in time. Start NinjaTrader and you should be able to select older expiries.

Once you added the instrument, close NinjaTrader and set back your PC clock to the current date.

          Thanks Jason.

          I'll try the workaround.

I'm not sure how much effort is involved in changing the interface so that the expiry month and year can be manually entered, but I would like to suggest it for future integration consideration.
