    Use of Underscore in Filenames

I recently downloaded the new 7.22. Prior to that I was able to use underscores in filenames. Now, it appears I'm not able to do this. The underscores "___" work in other programs and even within the script editor. I'm not sure why I can't use any longer in filenames.

    Thanks,
    Kirk

    Hello Kirk,

Can you please tell me what files you refer. I am able to use underscores upon saving workspaces and templates in NinjaTrader 7.0.0.22.

Unfortunately this is not possible upon creating custom indicators and strategies.

Kirk its probably my fault .

Starting a filename with an underscore was throwing errors in my IDE (VS 2010) so I reported a CLS compliance issue. Issue #4094 fixed that by disallowing anything other than alphanumeric characters in indi and strat filenames when using "Save As." See the x.22 Release Notes.

The quick and dirty fix now excludes compliant filenames that have anything other than numbers and digits in the filename.

_myStrat won't work and should not.

      my_Strat won't work and should.

        Interesting...

I'll have to get used to looking in the alphabet for the file names, I guess.

It's no fun having A1..., A2..., etc. for my favorite indicators/strats...

I'm no longer (since .22) able to save Strategies with an underscore ("Example_Name"). This was possible in the previous version.

Is this a bug or a permanent change? I hope it isn't permanent because it makes filenames much more cluttered and hard to quickly find what I'm looking for..

Unfortunately this is as expected and changed since version 7.0.0.22.

            Fixed
            4094
            NinjaScript
Right click -> 'Save As' in NinjaScript Editor didn't restrict naming filenames to numbers and digits.

That really sucks. Hard to believe we can't use a standard filename to save out strategies.

NinjaTrader should rethink their position on this issue.

I've been using Underscores as part of my filenaming convention since 2004.

Now, after using "Save As' within the editor I have to use Windows renaming then return to the editor. This two step approach is a real nuisance which seems to have no valid basis.

Unfortunately "_" causes many internal inconsistencies which can result in many issues. The restriction will remain.
