    General Question

I do not know if this question belongs in this section, but here goes anyway...

If I put on a position and forget to change the TIF to GTC, is there a way I can place an exit order after the exchange throws off the stop? I am holding a position and cannot place an exit inasmuch as NT sees it as an entry. The only alternative is to close and re-enter?

    Thanks.

    Hello nepenthean

    Thank you for your post.

It may be possible to modify the TIF after the order is placed. However this would have to take place on the broker’s end – you would contact them to see if they could modify the order for you. Otherwise you would need to cancel & replace the order manually in NinjaTrader.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

      Chip,

The order was thrown off by the exchange when the market closed since it was a day TIF. The problem is NT sees a new exit order as an entry. Do you know what I mean?

        Hello nepenthean,

Could you please explain how the order is listed as entry order. Where in the software do you see this reported?

If you are in a position and you submit a manual order to close it, it should not be listed as entry order.

When I went long I forgot to change the TIF to GTC and the stop was cancelled at change of trade day. I wanted to place an exit order below my position, so I placed a stop limit to sell. In the orders tab on the console it was listed as entry.

            Hi,

Can you send a screenshot of this showing along with your log for the day this happened. You can find the log in the lower left corner of your taskbar in the window icon. Click here and then (My) Documents--> NinjaTrader 6.5 (or 7 if you're using this version)--> Log--> log.20101009.txt. If it happened on the 9th.

Attach this file together with a screenshot to an email and send it over to support at ninjatrader dot com and refer to this post.

To send a screenshot press Alt + PRINT SCREEN to take a screen shot of the selected window. Then go to Start--> Accessories--> Paint, and press CRTL + V to paste the image. Lastly, save as a jpeg file and send the file as an attachment.
