multiple data connections, no fall back?

Hello I have multiple data connections,

    1 patsystem
    2 IB

My patsystem connections gives me FDAX 12-10 realtime data, but no GC 02-11 realtime data. Therefore I get an error MessageBox "Unknown data" from NT.

The obvious idea would be that if NT finds that for connection 1 the requested instrument returns Unknown data then NT would try out connection 2.

Connection 2 will supply the correct data for GC-02-11.

But unfortunately NT7 will not even try out the data connection 2 to get this data.

I suggest you to fix this and to add intelligent "unknown instrument" handling for data requests. => Try out lower priority connection.

    Best regards

    Andreas,

Can you connect to IB first and Pats second and then see if you receive GC data.

See here for more info on multiple connections as well:

This would not help in my case, because the IB data connection has/had a problem with FDAX right now. I would then have missing FDAX data.

      My question is very specific:

with connection 1 reporting "Unknown instrument" why does NT not fall back to connection 2 to retrieve market data?

Your response implies that there is no such intelligent handling,

so I suggest that you work something out in that direction.

        Andreas,

This is correct behavior. We will retrieve data from the first connection. Only when the first connection doesn't support an instrument type (Stock, Futures, Index or FX), NinjaTrader will retrieve data from the second connection.

I will pass your suggestion on.

In addition, are you authorized for the contract? If not, you might want to contact your Pats broker and ask if they can add this to your account.

What does the "Unknown instrument" message from NT7 mean?

Does this mean that the connection supports the instrument?

          Here the exact message:

Error on loading chart data for GC 02-11 Nymex: Unable to load historical data: unknown instrument.

I don't get it why NT would keep using connection 1 to retrieve data for this instrument, as even the internal NT messages report unknown instrument.

          regards

It could be that you're not authorized for this instrument. Best way to check is to open up the instrument manager when connected to Pats. Then click on the Pats button and see if the instrument is listed.

It could also means there is no (correct) symbol map installed. Please check in the instrument editor for the GC under the Misc tab and check if GC is entered as a symbol map for Patsystems.

              Exactly,

NT7 will get a message that the instrument is not authorized on connection 1.
Therefore NT should try to connect to the second data connection.

This is what I suggest ... but it is not happening yet

              regards
