    Importing txt files

    Hello.

This seems to be a simple question, but I got stuck for hours now, getting always the same message. " unable to import file....Instrument not supported by repository".

I'm attaching the txt file, which I couldn't generate in the correct format (how do I separate chacacters with semicolons?) The instrument I have already registered in the instrument manager, I hope that I did it correctly, just followed the guide.

    Thanks for the help.

    Hello Birle,

You will need to make sure the data in the text file is formatted as per the link below under 'Understanding import file and data formats'.

If it does not use the same format, you will experience the error message you report. You will need to separate values by a semi colon. You can enter such characters by opening the text file in Notepad.

      Hi Jason.

Thank you. I think my txt file looks right now, but I still get the same message. Can't figure out what's wrong.

      Regards

        Hello Roberto,

        Thank you for your note.

Based on what you uploaded, I think the file isn't named correctly.

Which instrument does this file contain data for?
Is this a futures contract? If so, which expiry of data is contained in the file?
Finally, what interval of data are you trying to import?

          Thanks Kyle.

This are daily data from ibovespa futures contract. It seems that the brazillian stocks and futures exchange is not listed, so I did the following:
          1. Created an instrument list (BVMF)
          2. Created a master instrument (INDG11). It seems that the file name is correct.
          3. Type - Future. Tick size - 5 (I'll try to change it to 1). Point value - 0,2
          4. Currency - Us Dollar (should be Brazillian Reais, not available).
          5. Session Templates - default 24/7 . Exchange - BVME (I just chose one, because BVMF is not listed)
          6. Symbol map - This I don't know what it means. I chose External by chance and wrot "ES" on the right column ??!!
          7. Expiry - I keep writing 02-11, but it keeps coming back to 12-10.

          Regards.

I changed the tick size to 1 point, but it still didn't work.

              Hello Roberto,

When I check the file, I notice quotation marks at the start and end of each line. These quotation marks need to be removed and are in violation with the format displayed in the help guide.

Please note that NinjaTrader displays expiry months in numbers like, 03-11 - 06-11 and so on. The .txt file name needs to be the same as the instrument name + expiry within the software. For example:

MSFT.Last.txt for Microsoft stock last price data
ES 12-09.Bid.txt for the S&P E-mini December contract bid price data
$EURUSD.Ask.txt for the Euro/U.S. dollar currency pair ask price data

Please let me know if the issue persists after removing the quotation marks and naming the .txt file properly.
