    Importing Symbols

    Hello Ninjas

I'm trying to bulk import symbols provided by esignal. The format in which the import the instrument manager requires the symbols is with commas and not in a column. However, I don't how to convert the symbols in the attached text file into a single row with commas.

I was wondering if someone could take a look at it for me and let me know how to make the change?

    Cheers

    Carlton

I've attempted everything possible to get the symbols imported. I've even tried importing with just two symbols and still getting error messages ..... 'symbols invalid or not formatted correctly'.

      Please help.

        Hi Carlton,

        Thank you for your post.

You're actually pretty close with this list. You just need to adjust it so that your format matches what is shown at the following link to our Help Guide: http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/h...stock_symb.htm

          Kyle,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I think the problem is NT7 doesn't seem to recognise the -LON extension. So for example, BskyB has the symbol BSY-LON. However, even with a single symbol with the -LON extension it doesn't recognise the symbol - even when I change the 'currency' to British Pound and 'traded on' to Lse tab.

          Can you help?

          Cheers

            Hi carlton,

I see - the only workaround would require you to remove the '-' from the symbols, then re-add it to the symbol mapping value for the instrument later on.

Unfortunately, the '-' isn't possible to use in an instruments 'master instrument' field, so the import is rejected.

                Hi carlton,

You would need to take the following steps:
From the Control Center, click Tools > Instrument Manager.
In the instrument Manager, select an instrument to edit from the list on the right, then press Change.
In the instrument editor, navigate to the Misc tab and scroll down.
Under the Symbol Map section, enter the correct value including the dash next to eSignal.
Click OK to apply the change.

                    Hi carlton,

Unfortunately, that is the only other method you could use to import these symbols. Essentially, it's this or manual instrument-by-instrument additions.

                        Kyle,

Are you sure there isn't a quicker way??

                          Hi carlton,

This is what it is, I'm afraid. There's no better method to accomplish the addition of the amount of symbols you're looking to add.
