Tick Charts

NinjaTrader behaves in a peculiar way on tick charts, here is just one example

I want to display a tick chart for a two day period from May 19 to May 20. So I select a BarSeries with end date May 20 and 2 days. I use ES with a session template which has two intraday sessions.

Chart displayed:

May 18: night session and real trading session
May 19: night session and real trading session
May 20: night session and real trading session
May 21: night session

So I get 3.5 days although I have selected 2 days.

This is not in relation to tick charts per se, but more rather a general caveat of session templates working off 24 hours or near 24 hours. This is generally most easily seen from forex data requests which span multiple calendar days and is kind of like a "bleeding" effect where the request bleeds in front and behind to ensure you get a complete pull of data for the requested dates.

What happens is when you request a date, the data request itself does not have a concept of "trading day" so it does not know which session segments are relevant for that date. This means to ensure all session segments are always covered it goes and grabs data from all segments as per the session template. If the segment spans into another calendar day, it will grab that whole date too.
