quickly switching data series on chart

i was wondering how to quickly change a chart window to a different data series other than the few at the top in the drop down without starting a whole new charting window?

To change instruments on a chart you can type the instrument symbol into the chart. If the chart is the active window you can then start typing and a small data series box will open. More information on this topic at:

In a related matter, is it possible to change the instrument on multiple charts at once? In other words, if I have 5 charts open (a 5 min, 15 min, 60 min, daily, and monthly, for example), is it possible to select all 5 charts at once to change all of them to a single instrument to view in the various time frames?

Thank you for your post.

This is possible with Window Linking. Charts, Order entry, Alerts, Time and Sales, News and Market Analyzer windows all have link buttons in the top right hand corner (L). Any window that is linked by color (each link button is set to the same color) will receive the same change of instrument request. That means that if you change, or select, an instrument in one window, all other linked windows will also change to that instrument.

Is there a way of linking a Chart template to a symbol and symbol compression. Its really nice to be able to change the data Series on a chart so quickly but if your charts have templates with indicators tuned / symbol & compression you loose the benefit. Even if I could change the template with a hotkey it would be much quicker other wise you are navigating down thru a menu and drop down dialog to change the chart template. For scalping speed is everything.

Thank you for your post.

Currently the chart templates are separate from the instruments and interval settings so that they can be applied to multiple chart types regardless of instrument. I have forwarded this as a suggestion for enhancement to NinjaTrader in a way that would enable a linking of instrument and template.

However, you can use workspaces to view multiple charts with different templates such that you have particular templates applied to charts and if you would like to view an instrument using a particular template you can change the instrument in that particular chart.
