Is there a sample size limitation when optimizing?

I've been using NT since 3 years ago and must say that NT is a wonderful software. I have created numerous successful strategies on NT.

I have always wanting to ask this....Is there a sample size limitation when optimizing?

Whenever I tried to run a large sample size, let say 10k iterations on 9 years of 10 minute historical, strategy analyzer will always run all 8 threads and near 90% cpu. But after few hours, it will run down to a single thread or simply hang.


Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your post.

We do not put in any limitations on restrictions on optimization and backtesting. The performance of these tests will depend on the resources available from your PC. If you find cases where your PC is slow to respond, this would indicate you have reached the threshold of your CPU performance.

Speed and performance are not the issue here. The problem is when optimizer is running a large sample size 10K+ iterations with 9 years worth of historical data, the optimizer will eventually seize to function. When NT optimizer hangs, Abort does not work and I still have 9gigs out of 12gigs of memory free and CPU was 90+% idle.
