    Mac and parallels

    Hi,

Iam using my macbook pro with parallels to run ninjatrader however am experiencing quiet a bit of lag. Has anyone got any advice to make things run smoother? I have about 6 charts open and a few moving averages on those charts.

Would increasing the ram dedicated to the parallels make a difference?

    Thanks

    Hello omarmalik,

I am not sure if increasing RAM per Parallels will run NinjaTrader more smooth per your setup, however I suggest to test it and check if this will improve performance.

You can find more tips and suggestions to improve the performance of NinjaTrader at the link below.

get a solid-state drive... if you're savvy you can install it yourself.
      sick fast.

I just started using NT on a 2007 MacBook Pro with 4Gig Ram & a solid state drive. Running it in bootcamp on XP... no problems at all in paper trade mode with PFG account.

Yes, hands down, again solid state drive will make a gigantic difference.
          Good luck!

Do you get better performance booting in Windows or running split screen in combo with OSX? Also, do people prefer to run VMware or Parallels? Thank you.

              if you want...

if you want preformance then use bootcamp, as you will not be dividing your resources. if you want function then use a virtual machine.i personal have tried both parallels and vmware with 6.5 parallels has become the better program.

Will a solid state drive take the toll off the different cores on the CPU?

as far as i know the benefit to having a ss drive is that it reduces the seek time. it should have no effect on processing

SO it won't affect backtest, optimizations, scans, but it will pull up saved copies of already executed backtests/optimizations?

correct, the only thing that will help speed up backtesting and what not is ram and processing, because that is done on the fly, and anything that is stored or read will be effected by seek time. so in effect ram processing and seektime are the quickness of your system, and if you are using a virtual machine instead of bootcamp you are reducing your resources by half.
