    Cannot start NT7 after inst: System.ArgumentException: ChartStyleType 1 not supported

    Hi,
    I am trying to install NT7 on Windows XP SP3. The installation seems to go fine, however NinjaTrader shows only splash screen and then it crashes.
    Please find attached log and trace files.
    Any idea what could be the problem?

    Thanks for posting.


    Please try removing all files from the Documents > NinjaTrader 7 > Workspaces folder, then attempt to restart NinjaTrader.

      Hi,
      The directory: MyDocumentNinjaTrader 7\workspaces is completely empty. There is nothing to delete there. Couldn't it be because the application has never started up?

        Since "My Documents" are on network disk couldn't this issue has something to do with this? What is the exception " ChartStyleType 1 not supported" saying?

          Hi marekozana,

          Thanks for bringing up the networked drive. Unfortunately, that type of setup is not supported in NinjaTrader 7 and is what is causing this error. Moving forward, you would need to remove the share and the reinstall NinjaTrader.

            Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately I work for a large organization and possiblity to change the network disk set-up is outside of my control.
            Are you planning to remove this bug in the next release? it is very unususal to hardcode installation path to My Documents. One would expect to get the possiblitiy to change the default location in installer or at least to follow standards and install all dlls in C:\Program Files.

              A change to this limitation is something which development is considering, but there is currently no word on if or when this may change.

                It's a shame, that after 3 years the problem still isn't solved and I'm facing the same issue.
                Is there any way to change UserDataDir for NinjaTrader?
                I off course tried the resolution 2 from below topic, but it didn't helped.

                  Hello,

                  Thank you for your post. I removed the trace file which you attached as it does include some information which you would not want to share in a public forum.

                  Unfortunately, NinjaTrader 7 does not support user defined directories for application settings. This is among the items being considered for NinjaTrader 8 however it is unclear whether this will be changed currently.

                  The 'resolution 2' fix which you referenced would apply only to NinjaTrader 6.5 and has no effect on NinjaTrader 7. In order for NinjaTrader 7 to function on your PC, the Documents folder will need to be redirected from the networked drive and set to a local drive like C:\..

                    Thank you for your reply.

                    There are some paths in registry in branch:
                    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NinjaTrader\NinjaTrader 7
                    Unfortunately it's change doesn't affect NinjaTrader. Can you say, where UserDataDir variable is stored?

                    Location change of Documents folder isn't possible on corporate computer, because Domain politics resets path change made from local administrator.
