    Upgrade to win 7 (64bit) from xp

    Hi;
    Have upgraded from xp to win 7 64bit.

    Heres how it went:

    1 Backed up all files to external hard drive
    2 Installed win 7 64bit
    3 Downloaded and installed NT 7.8
    4 Moved NT backup file from ext hdd to C
    5 Started NT 7 (64bit)
    6 Put in licence key
    7 Was told that key was invalid and to contact you guys
    8 Zenfire not listed in connections so can't connect to data feed either.

    What do I need to do to get myself up and running again please.

    I will also need a new user name and password for zenfire if the old connection can't be re-established from my old NT7 files as I remembered to copy the licence key for NT but not my user name and p'word for the connection from within NT.

    Old version of windows xp was 32bit. Can't import NT scripts either.

    ben.

    Hi Ben,

    a) for the ZenFire account connection logins > please contact your broker directly, we would not issue those

    b) for the license key - please ensure it's correctly entered and that firewalls running would allow the ninjatrader.exe process to setup an http connection to it's license servers

    If this fails, please email us the license key you attempt using to support at ninjatrader dot com so we could double check it.

    What errors messages are you getting if you compile your scripts? Could you post or email us a screenshot of them please?

    Thanks,

      Hi
      will email key now.

      Used the same key to access the download though.

      What do i do about not having zenfire on the connection list, or is that rectified when NT licence key is entered correctly?
      Incidentally the license key is shown in the 'About' window .

        Yes, the provider option is tied to the key used - likely it could not be verified with the server (ISP, firewall issue) or you mistyped a character for example > please recheck one more time.

          Hi Bertrand;

          I don't know about the scripts, it was a notification when I tried to restore from my back up. It simply said 'unable to restore scripts as this will corrupt your installation'

            Hi Bertrand

            That solved it .......... usual suspect an 'O' instead of an '0'.

            Will check connections now and then try my strategy scripts again

            Thanks;

            Ben.

              Ahhhh Zenfire not available in the 64 bit version of NT !!!! Sure there's a great reason - is that why I have two NT short cuts on my desktop now?

              What is available in 64bit and is it worth swapping?

              Ben

                Strategy has opened fine and is editable and all my indicators are there as well, don't know what error message was about then.

                Thanks for your time oh and what data provider is compatible with 64bit?

                Thanks

                Ben.

                  Glad to hear Ben, ZenFire would be available in 64 bit now - http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/h...rical_data.htm

                  Please ensure when creating the connection to not check 'Legacy API' and use the 64 bit desktop icon for NT7.

                      Thanks for the original post Stocktraderbmp.

                      I've never used the backup feature, but glad I've found it.

                      I'm in the process of replacing my laptop harddrive. The laptop would run for a few days or hours or minutes depending on if it hits a certain area on the harddrive - then the harddrive turns off - and without pagefile access, well, the machine locks up and I can't do anything.

                      I've been able to copy everything off that I need.

                      Cloning the harddrive failed, as it hit one of those areas and stopped 1/3 through the cloning process.

                      This backup feature should make my life easier... I've got recovery disks to start fresh on Vista.

                        spx 1380 is still in the cards.

                        Amazing how the daily range has just magically shrunk since December.
                        Especially overnight range..

                        Definitely a different trading environment again!

                          As I do a lot of my research / tinkering and code breaking at the weekends, I have set the reminder to backup every Monday. Saved the day today as I forgot to copy my zenfire user name and password but all the files were there for me to access and the process of up grading has been painless. Apart from 'numb nut' here using an 'o' instead of a '0' for the license key it was easy.

                          Good luck.

                            I hope there are no issues backup/restore from 7.1000.0.7 into .8
