Interactive brokers as data only providers

Hi

I trade with a TT connection which has no backfill for charts. Is there any wa to connect to Interactive brokers as a data provider like esignal rather than a broker? Trying not to pay dual brokerage subscription as i dont trade through them in short term using ninja.

IB can be quite limited and troublesome when used for backfill/historical.

You may want to look at opentick for backfill/historical data.

Not as good as dtn or esignal, but a lot better than using IB for historical


Also... if you are testing historical tick charts .. there is a substantial difference between all providers. For sure, TT will have a different tick rate/quantity than IB and IB will differ from DTN/OpenTIck/ESignal etc.
So charts built with backfilled bars may be different than charts built with R/T ticks from TT. (or any other feed).

Depending on your strategy, this may make a difference.

This usually isn't a big problem with minute based charts.

True Zoltran, but in my experience if I use volume based bars they are a lot more consistent as the bars are then made by the charting provider.
I currently have esignal and will test your observations. Much appreciated.

when I´m trying to do so I just can choose between ESignal, IQFeed, OpenTick and Yahoo as Providers. As I said I´m using the free version of NT, I have´nt bought a license yet. For trading via IB a license is obviously necesarry. But is it possible to use IB´s data without a license for testing issues?

Just a note about IB demo data: it sucks... Not to be crass but the demo data is nothing like real life.
