IB for Broker and Barchart for all data

Where data comes from is dependent on connection order - in your case, connect to BarChart before IB to ensure that data originates with the BarChart connection.

Still a bit confused. So should my "provider" be barchart? In that case, there does not seem to be an option to add IB as a backup.

The backup settings have no impact here - all which is required is the correct connection order: connect first to BarChart, then to IB.

I think I have done this correctly but how can I confirm that IB is connected?

And are these connection orderings something that I can key in so they happen automatically? I am automatically connecting to barchart at the moment but then am logging into IB manually.

Hi,

1.) When connected to a data provider, you'll see that listed in the lower left side of the control center window within a green box which reports 'Connected - **name of your data provider**

2.) While I would recommend that you keep the current setup the way it is (as this manual connection will always ensure that connection order is correct), you could enable the auto-connect on the IB connection. Just be aware that auto-connect order is alphabetical. So you'll need to make sure that the IB connection uses a name which comes after the bar chart connection's name in alphabetical order.

Do I need to go through the 'set up connection' process everytime I wish to connect with IB?

I can't tell if I am connected or not.

No - now that the connection has been configured, it will remain available in the File > Connect menu.
