    Hello pls2000,
    Thanks for the clarification.

To get data for SPY please make a new instrument (from Tools>Instrument Manager) as shown in the attached screenshot.

The CBOE VOLATILITY INDEX (VXV) is already listed in the default instrument manager and you can get EOD data for it using the free Kinetick EOD connection. The symbol in NinjaTrader for it is VX (current contract is VX 08-12).

Please note, Google does not provides data for futures, but only stocks so you may not get data for VXV.

Please let me know if I can assist you any further.

    Instruments

I'm not making any changes to the instruments. Both SPY and VXV are already listed in the table and I have not changed them.

It's just that attempting to download historical data or to make a chart for these tells me that they are invalid instruments.

SPY traded on the NYSE and VXV is on CBOE, I believe.

Since they are both defined as downloaded, I haven't touched the definitions.

What symbols are available as a demo?

I've just downloaded and installed the latest NinjaTrader. With connections set up for Kinetick and Google, I find that I cannot do a historical download for symbols SPX and VXV.

Is this expected? I know Google has data for these two.

Trying to view a chart for either of these symbols shows a short period of data that looks nothing like read data for the symbols.

    Thanks.
