    Question about future contract rollover

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to figure out last trading date of a futures contract?

Eg. right now if you were to load ES chart, it will be ES 09-12. What I want to figure out is the last day to trade the contract.

Also, what happens if I bought 1 contract of ES 09-12 on its last trading date and did not sell it by the end of the day. Does it get converted to ES 12-12 automatically or I need to call my broker to do so?

Thank you for any insight you can provide.

    Hello,

You can find the last trade date from the CME Product Calendar:

If you have an open position on the 09-12, it will not be converted to the 12-12. You'd need to contact the broker to manage this.

A week before on Thursday is when you should rollover. I usually wait until the weekend, since that is when I restart NT.

If you restart NT, they'll have a popup warning about contract rollover.

There is no converting that I am aware of.

      Here are the ES dates:

        Hello Sledge,
Thank you for the reply. Can you please explain in a bit detail about how you do the rollover?

I can understand the part that if 09-12 ES contract is expiring next week you'll rollover this Thu.

        Thanks again.

            Thanks Kyle.

In addition to following the steps you mentioned do I need to talk to my broker? I use Mirus Futures.

              Hi,

No - it's typically not required that you inform your broker of the roll-over.
