Simulated Training and practice

I guess I am seeing that the simulated feed is mostly for trying out strategies and what not but I was wondering if I could use it to just practice trading. Recognizing trends and channels, etc. So my first question is does the simulation act like a real market when left alone? Second question is similar to the first. If I leave the slider in the middle, will the simulator actually rise and fall like a market if left alone?
Alternatively I guess I can download prior days and practice on that but maybe I won't have to if this works.
One last question. I like to watch charts using a 2000 tick. Can this be accomplished with either the simulator or the downloads. What I mean to say is does NT offer tick charts for situations like this? I have a Kinetick account but I guess in simulation or download mode, it probably wouldn't help to have that account.

I guess I need some more help. I had the historical data manager open downloading a weeks worth of YM data from my Kinetick account but I can't use this to run the playback feature of NT? I think I was confusing this with the playback but this historical data is for.....running strategies? It's a shame to because it will let me download tick data which is what I wanted to use in the simulator

If you are not using NT Direct Edition, it sounds like you want to use the Market Replay aspect.
