    Historical data import

    Hi,

I am new to NinjaTrader and I'm experiencing a problem with importing historical data from text file and charting it.

There is no problem with the import process - at the end, I get a message that import was completed successfully.

However, when I try to open the chart and view the historical data, the chart is blank. When I check My Documents\NinjaTrader 7\db\minute\, there are some files for the symbol in question.

I am attaching the sample text file I used for the import.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I'm using the free version of NinjaTrader downloaded from the official website.

    Thanks very much

    Hello,

    Thank you for your post.

Can you please confirm you have the dates set within the Data Series window to reflect the dates included in the imported data. Also do you see an "F" in the upper right hand corner of your chart? If so please left mouse click on the "F" to bring your chart back to Auto Scale.

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

Hi, thanks very much for your answer.

Yes, I think I do have the date range set correctly (that's why I put 999 in "Days to load" to be sure it covers the time range of data in the text file). I don't have an F in the upper right-hand corner; instead, I have an L.

      Unfortunately, it doesn't work anyway.

Attached to this, please find screenshots of all the steps I have taken.

Step 1 - Successful import in Historical Data Manager from the source file I attached earlier.
Step 2 - A file appears in My Documents.
Step 3 - I open a new chart of ES 09-12 with the instruction to load 999 days worth of history (the text file contains data from September 2012, therefore it should be easily covered).
      Step 4 - A blank chart appears.

      Thanks

The file being imported must be in .txt format and must include the instrument symbol within the file name. For example ES 09-12.Last.txt

I have provided a link below to our Help Guide that goes over Importing Data and the format required.

Unfortunately NinjaTrader only supports Equities with the Yahoo connection however the Kinetick End of Day (Free) connection will give you EOD Daily data for USDSEK. Use the steps I have provided below to add this Forex pair within NinjaTrader:
            • Tools
            • Instrument Manager
            • Click New
            • Master instrument: USDSEK
            • Instrument type: Currency
            • Exchange: Default
            • Misc tab
            • Kinetick mapping: USDSEK.COMP
            • Click Ok
            • Add USDSEK to your Default list
            • Connect to the Kinetick End of Day (Free) connection
            • Open a new Daily chart

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

I am aware of that; the import file is named exactly the way you described (see attachment to my first post). I'm also aware of the help guide and of the required format. If you open my attachment, you can verify that I followed the instructions in the help guide. Unfortunately, I'm getting blank charts.

Please go to Tools-->Historical Data Manager-->Edit tab-->Locate ES 09-12-->Click on the + sign and locate your Minute Last folder and tell me if data is listed for the dates you imported.

Yes, the data is listed. Looks like the import worked out fine but for some reason NinjaTrader won't display the data on chart.

                            Hi Chris,

Thanks for your help. Everything is working now. It seems the "Session Template" setting is making the difference. For some reason, I can't leave that setting as preset.
