InteractiveBrokers data feed and problem plotting indicators (example: OBV)

    Hi everyone,

I use an IB data feed and when I load a forex instrument and then apply an indicator (OBV in the attached example), it shows like a '0' line.

If I scroll back the chart a bit on the left, the indicator appears correctly plotted, but the problem is that I need to show the most recent price development (with the last bar being on the right of the chart).
I have already tried to reload historical data, and, after that, for a while it works. But then it returns as showed in the attached example.

Please let me know if there is a way to solve the issue.

    thank you,

    John.

    Hello John,
Interactive Brokers do not provides historical volume for Forex and thus you are witnessing the scenario.

To get volume for forex you can consider subscribing to Kinetick, which is also the preferred datafeed for NinjaTrader.

Hi, thank you for the reply.

As you may know, OBV (on balance volume) doesn't require REAL volume, since it plots using the high or the low of the previous canldes. It is just a substitute for volume.

      Any other suggestion?

      thank you,

      John.

        Hello John,
OBV requres volume to calculates the value.

        From our help guide:
OBV is a simple indicator that adds a period's volume when the close is up and subtracts the period's volume when the close is down. A cumulative total of the volume additions and subtractions forms the OBV line. This line can then be compared with the price chart of the underlying security to look for divergences or confirmation.

To view how the indicator is calculated please follow the below steps:
        • In Control Center menu bar goto Tools>Edit NinjaScript>Indicators...
        • In the Indicators dialog select OBV and click Ok.
