    Creating Instrument List?

    Hello,

How do I create an Instrument List, add the instruments, and associate all the Instruments to one exchange?

    Thanks.

    Hello Karado58,

    Thank you for your post.

You can create an instrument list from the Instrument Manager:
    • Control Center > Tools > Instrument Manager...
    • On the left hand side towards the bottom, click "New"
    • Define a name for your new instrument list > Click "OK"
    • The new instrument list will be displayed on the left hand side.

To add an instrument to this list:
    • Type the instrument name into the Name field on the left hand side of the Instrument Manager > Click Search
    • Highlight the instrument from the grid below
    • Select the exchange and expiry from the drop down menu
    • Click the "<" left arrow button to add this instrument to your instrument list.
    • Repeat these steps for each instrument you would like to add.

Alternatively you can import a stock symbol list from Control Center > File > Utilities > Import Stock Symbol list...

I want to create a new list identical to SP 500 list and I will remove some instruments later to finalize my list.

Is there a fast way to copy the instruments in SP 500 list to my new list? Or I have to add one by one?

      Thanks.

        Hello ShadowKnows,

        Thank you for your post.

In regards to creating this list within the Instrument Manager, yes you will need to create the list and add each instrument manually.

With that being said, you can import a stock symbol list from Control Center > File > Utilities > Import Stock Symbol List...

You will need to create a text document with the instrument names and select this text document when importing the stock list.

I have attached a stock list for the Nasdaq as an example

          Thanks, Ryan.

Where did you get the list in txt format? Is it updated and could you share some more, like SP 500, etc?

            Hello ShadowKnows,

The Nasdaq list was obtained from another client on the Support forum.

Unfortunately these lists would not be updated unless you updated them manually.

The only other list that I have available right now is the NYSE symbol list.

There are many brokers from whose platform you can export a list of component stocks of an index. If you know someone who has a TOS account, you can beg them to export the lists for you.

A work around to copy and edit an existing list in NinjaTrader is:

                1. Create a new Market Analyzer Window
                2. Add the Instrument List you wish to copy into Market Analyzer
                3. Now Export the list to Excel: Grid > Export to Excel
                4. Delete all columns from Excel spreadsheet except the instrument name.
                5. Edit and save your new Excel list as *****.txt
                6. Now import your saved list... File > Utilities > Import Stock List

                Regards
