CL chart not updating

    CL chart not updating

    Can someone please help me to understand why this CL chart is not updating?

    I took the attached picture around 9:45 PM and if you look at the tail end of the chart there are only two bars after 9PM, one says 9.25PM and other one for 9.40PM. I am just wondering what happened to the rest of the bars. It is a 5 min chart so I am assuming there should be a bar at the end of every 5 min intervals.

    Am I missing something here? Should I change any NT settings?

    My internet is connection is good and I can open other websites without any problem.

    Thank you for your note.

    1.) Which data provider do you use with NinjaTrader?

    2.) Which Session Template is used in the chart?
    Right click in the chart and select Data Series - Session Template is shown on the right side of this menu.

      I am using ZenFire and have been using 'Use Instrument Setting' in session template options. I am attaching a screenshot for your reference.

      Am I missing something here?

        Hello,

        Thanks for getting back to me.

        You should see more normal volume with the 02-13 expiry.
        Please follow the instructions below to rollover the expiration date of a futures contracts.
        • From within the NinjaTrader Control Center window select the menu Tools > Instrument Manager
        • Highlight the contract you wish to rollover in the left side of the Instrument Manager window
        • Press the ">" button (the instrument will disappear from the list)
        • Press the "<" button and the instrument should re-appear with the front month expiration date




        Another change will then be required due to the roll-over date defined within NinjaTrader's instrument manager:

        Open the Instrument Manager by clicking Tools > Instrument Manager.
        In the Manager, select CL from the list on the right then click Edit to open the Instrument Editor.
        In the Editor, navigate to the Misc tab and scroll down to the Contract Months section - select that property then click the '...' button which appears.
        In the Contract Months menu, select 2-13 and change the rollover date to 12/17.
        Click OK to exit the Contract Months menu.
        Click OK to exit the Instrument Editor.
        Click OK to exit the Instrument Manager.
        Restart NinjaTrader.

        After restarting you should see CL 02-13 charts load normally.

          Thank you so much for your help.

          As a follow up question to above when I try to load CL 04-13 chart, it does load but has a huge spike for the most recent bar. It does seem abnormal to me. I am interesting in trading CL 04-13, can you please help me to load it correctly without any data abnormalities?

          Again thanks for your help. I am attaching the screenshot.

            Hello pandyav,
            NinjaTrader will pull the historical data for the near month contract only and the real time data for the applied contract. Thus you are witnessing the scenario.

            To receive the data for the applied contract please change the MergePolicy.
            • In Control Center menu bar goto Tools>Options>Data tab
            • In the Data tab please change the Merge Policy to DoNotMerge.


            Please reload your historical data after you have made the above changes.
            • To reload your historical data please right click in the background of your chart and select 'Reload All Historical Data'.

              Hi Joydeep,
              Please see the latest chart of CL 04-13. You'll see that there are hardly any bars after 3 PM. I am confused as to why am I not seeing a bar for every 5 min interval.

              Can you please help? Just so that you know the rollover date for CL 04-13 under Tools>Instrument Manager>CL 04-13>Edit>Misc>Contract Months is 02/17/2013.

                Hello pandyav,
                Far month contracts are generally not as liquid as the near/next month contracts. This is particularly true for afterhour trading, when trading is thin.
