connecting to two IB accounts

I have two accounts with Interactive Brokers: a brokerage and a rollover IRA. I have been connecting to the brokerage account and trading for a long time with no issues. Now, I'd like to trade in both accounts thru Ninja. Here are the steps I'm following:

1. I open TWS and log into the brokerage acct. I open another instance of TWS and log into the IRA acct.

2. I set up a new Account Connection in Ninja for the IRA acct with the same settings as the brokerage (except of course the user name and password)

3. In Ninja, I first connect to the brokerage account to use that as my data feed. The connection is good.

4. Then I attempt to connect to the IRA account thru File/Connect/IRA and get a couple error msgs:

"Login failed: TWS closed socket (No more data to read)"

"IB - rollover: TWS forced your connection to close... etc."


It looks like Ninja is trying to connect to the first instance of TWS, the one with the brokerage acct, when it gets this error msg.

Can you please help? I am using NinjaTrader 64-bit 7.0.1000.11 regular license.

I just read another similar post... do I need to set a different port nbr to connect to the second instance of TWS?

Thanks for your post.
That is correct, you will need to set a different port number for the second connection in both NinjaTrader and Traders Workstation
To do this in NinjaTrader go to Tools> Account Connections
Select the IRA account and press Change
Press Next on the Manage an Existing Connection and General screen
Under Port change it to 7497
Press next and Finished

Now in Traders Workstation - IRA go to Edit> Global Configuration> API> Settings
Under Socket Port enter 7497

Now you should be able to connect to both at the same time
