    Running StrategyAnalyzer whist trading

    hi NT Support,

i run strategies 24/5 via NT, however I have noticed that when i start back testing in Strategy analyzer whilst connected to IB often I get an error message and/or it takes very long to get results. I think this is due to the fact that Strategy analyzer tries to retrieve new historical data from the server each time. Is there some setting that allows Strategy analyzer to run the back testing on historical data already acquired, as if i was back testing off line?

    Hello sburtt,

    Thanks for your note.

I do think this the cause of the issue. While the Strategy Analyzer does use the historical data stored on the PC before downloading any missing historical data, the data may not have been downloaded before.

Once the data has been downloaded from the historical data server once it will be stored on your PC for future use.

If you have a chart open you can record the incoming data as historical data by doing the following:
    • Click Tools -> Options -> select the Data tab
    • Check the box labeled "Save chart data as historical"
    • Click OK

This is mentioned in the help guide on the Data Tab of the Options window.

        Hello sburtt,

Once this is checked there is no need to restart NinjaTrader or reboot your PC. The data from before this was checked will still need to be downloaded at least once.

You can do this by opening a chart with the days to load including the days you want to test over, or in the Historical Data Manager by going to Tools -> Historical Data Manager -> Download, selecting the instrument and period you would like to download over plus the type of data and then clicking Download.
