Profit and losses in different currencies

    Hello.
I usually trade futures on european indices, so my P&L is almost always in euros.
I just trade contracts on JPY/USD, so part of my PNL is now in a different currency.
But when I check the account performance, it just sums up profits in € and profits in $.
How to transform profits/losses in $ to equivalent profit/losses in euros??

    Thanks

    Hello Gepetto,

    Thank you for your post.

You will need to have the currency pairs you trade open in a Market Analyzer with the same currnecies paired to your base currency.
To open a Market Analyzer please go to File > New > Market Analyzer > right click in the Market Analyzer > select Add Instrument > select the currency pairs you trade and their pair to your base currency.
Please see the attached screenshot for an example of this for the USDJPY and the EURO.

This will give NinjaTrader the conversion rates for these instruments and pairs.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I probably have been not clear enough.

In the account performance tab, I look at all my trades in the "trades" subtab...
The problem is that the computed profits/losses are always computed in $, even if the contract was in €.
For example, if I make a 500€ profit on the Bund, it will be indicated as 500$.
So, if I make 500€ gain on bund and 500$ loss on SPX, it indicates a global PNL of 0, instead of 500€ - 500/1,29.

To be precise, I traded 12 lots on FESX 06-13:
        I earned 9 points ==> 9*12*10=1080€ gain (incorrectly shown as 1080$ gain).
In the same time, there was a loss in USDJPY of 502$.
So the profit should be around 1080*1,29-502$.
But it simply add 1080 and (-502) to give a cumulative profit of 578$...

          Hello Gepetto,

          Thank your for your response.

The display of the currencies will always be the currency for the PC region settings, they are originally hard coded for USD. I will submit this as a suggestion to improve the NinjaTrader Platform to our development team.

The problem is not that the software prints a $ in front of my P&L.
The problem is that it simply adds profits and losses from different currencies as if these profits/losses were from the same currency.
So, apparently, there is no way in NT to add correctly amounts in $ and in €...am I right?

              Hello Gepetto,

              Thank you for your response.

Correct, the values are hard-coded as USD. Mentioning the display of the currencies was to clear up any confusion on why you would see €, although the values will still be a USD.

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

                Hello Gepetto,

Thank you for your suggestion on how we can improve our product. It has been inserted into our tracking system with the unique ID # 564.

Is this suggestion being incorporated into NT8? Have traded Bund for years and it's always been a problem. Would be nice to have it solved.

                  Thanks Guys.

Thanks Patrick. I'm sure I'm not the only person to trade a market that isn't in his/her local currency or multiple markets with different currencies. Hopefully it's up the list high enough to make it in. Cheers

(I'm an Aussie that trades EU and US markets daily.)

Is this still the recommended approach to get PnL in the local currency Ninjatrader 8? And If so, can you give an example of which pairs I need to add to market analyser for the following scenario

                        GBP Trading Account

                        Positions on the following pairs:

                        EURJPY
                        NZDAUD
                        USDJPY
                        GBPCAD

                          Hello reach4thelasers,

                          Thank you for your post.

NinjaTrader 8 should convert the Profit and Loss to the base currency used for the PC's region. So this "fix" for NinjaTrader 7 is not needed in NinjaTrader 8.

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.
