Heiken Ashi Differential Indicator

I am curious if anyone has developed the HA DIff Indicator for NinjaTrader. The Heikin Ashi Difference study plots the difference of Close and Open prices as expressed in Heikin Ashi values. It also displays auxiliary plot showing the Simple Moving Average of the difference.

I have not been able to find a version of this indicator available for NinjaTrader however this is something which could be added to the software through custom programming. It does not seem that the indicator has been created by any third party since you'd last checked.

If you first apply the smoothing to the Heikin Ashi candles and then calculate the difference, the resulting oscillator should get you better results.

Attached is a chart with smoothed Heikin-Ashi bars. The Heikin-Ashi bars can be built according to Dan Valcu (original HA bars) or according to Sylvain Vervoort (formula published in TASC magazine). For the smoothing about 30 different moving averages can be used. For the chart I have used an Ehlers filter with a period of 10.

You can easily imagine to use the difference of the close and open to plot an oscillator and then create a signal line, as you have suggested. The result would be a MACD type oscillator. Not difficult to code.

You can find the smoothed HA candles in the download seciont of Big Mike's Trading Forum www.bigmiketrading.com. However, this is not the Heikin Ashi Diff indicator, which would still require a few modifications.

Curious if anyone else has built the ThinkOrSwim version of this... in their code its just listed as HeikinAshiDiff(); built in function. Comparing that functions results in TOS to anything I have found within C#, Trading View or NT doesn't seem similar.

Thank you for your note.

I didn't see one on our User App Share, so I've created a version as it required very little code to achieve. This version calls the HeikenAshi8 indicator so you can get the correct values for the Open and Close prices, and plots the difference between the close and open prices as well as a SMA of the diff based on the Smoothing Length specified.
