Can't trade equities or FX on a Sim101 account

    Hey Guys,

    Just some further details on this issue.

    I have spoken to two colleagues of mine who are also going through a testing process of NT in simulation mode with a view to going live.

    They have the identical problem to me.

    i.e. with Zen Fire selected as first data feed, no trading can be done in Equities or FX from Interactive Brokers data (when IB is selected as the second data source). This clearly isn't an isolated problem.

    Be appreciative to hear your ideas on this...?

      This is a limitation that is rarely run into which is why the issue escaped us.

      When you connect to Zen-Fire frst, a simulation account is associated to that connection. That connection only supports Futures and thus orders for FX and Equities can not be simulated. We have an error message that explains this but we just realized that its not triggering which is a bug we will resolve.

      Your only option at this time is to connect to IB first and Zen-Fire second.

            One further thing I just need a bit of clarification on.

            Does NT use it's own local database to keep track of positions...? Or are they stored remotely...? What happens if the local DB becomes corrupted..?

            Also, does NT ever 'download' positions from the brokerage accounts it's connected to...?? i.e. if I traded outside of NT directly into Interactive Brokers TWS system (for some reason, like NT hung or something), would NT be able to pick those trades up...? Or can it only track trades on the basis of those made through the NT front end rather than the broker generally...?

              Positions are either calculated based on executions data from the broker or directly passed through from a position report provided from the broker.

              In the case of IB and Zen-Fire, positions are reported by them and displayed in NT.

              In any broker, positions should always be accurately reported.

                Timely thread, just ran into this myself, thanks for posting the workaround regarding the sim account. The error message will surely help.

                I can confirm it works fine on live account.
