sending gmail issues?

Hey guys,

I'm unable to send emails using my gmail account (Options > Misc > Test...)
I've enabled SSL and filled out all the different forms, but it just says

Failed to send mail: The operation has timed out.

Earlier when I was attemping using settings as per Ninjatrader's tutorial, it told me I had to enable SSL, which I did. Still no go.

Anyone else got gmail working with ninjatrader?

Already tried that, also with other ports listed by Google as well. Still no go.

Could it be you entered your entire email address in the Name field? So [email protected]. If so, please enter just the name - NinjaTrader_Jason.

Do you have any firewall or anti-virus software running that could be blocking it? If so, please temporarily disable them and check you can submit a test email.

Is this a new account? How long have you used it?

Does this gmail work on your smart phone?

It's about 10 years old, my personal account, and yeah I use it on my smart phone.
I'll post a screenshot of my ninjatrader misc settings tonight.

If the issue remains, I suggest to create a new Gmail account and check if this one will work.

Ah I managed to get the old error again : (after going back to the original port)

Can you please click OK after entering the information and subsequently try the test email again.

If the same error remains, it indicates something is blocking port 587. This could be your router or ISP. Are you able to test a different router or ISP?

Well this might be the dead end then, even if I try a different gmail address, still the same error. Any other free email providers?

changing ISP or router isn't an option here.

Issue is definitely ninjatrader

Hi Jason and others,

The issue is definitely Ninja trader.
I've tried external email applications, and a new account with inbox.com.
Everything works flawlessly except Ninjatrader.


In Ninjatrader, I've tried all 3 of the common ports, 25, 587, 467, with AND without SSL.
If I turn off SSL, it says "Security required" and if I turn it on, this is the error I get!

Is it possible to send commands to the command-line in C#? I'm may try to write an external program to take the alerts from my Ninjatrader strategy and bypass this system.

If the issue would be NinjaTrader then all other users that try to send emails to Gmail accounts would report the issue, which is not the case.

Unfortunately I am not sure what information inbox.com requires to send emails. Are you able to test Hotmail?

Is it possible to test a different ISP - perhaps a free WiFi location somewhere?
