Wrong trade closed..

I've configured an ATM strategy having quantity 2000, two stops at 100 pips and 1 target at 100 pips. I've called this ATM 'Stop 100 (all), Target 100 (half)'.

On October 15th I've opened a short on GBPAUD at 1,6798 by selecting the newly created ATM in the Chart Trader and clicking on Sell Market.
On October 16th target was reached at 1,6698 and NT automatically bought 1000.
On October 16th I've opened another short at 1,6693 by first selecting 'Stop 100 (all), Target 100 (half)' and then clicking on Sell Market.
Unfortunately, price retraced all the way 1,6809 taking out the second trade entirely (quantity 2000) or at least I thought..

Instead, the remainder of my first short (quantity 1000) at 1,6698 was closed as well as 1000 of my second short at 1,6693.
What did I do wrong here?

What is your ATM Strategy Selection mode set to?

• Right mouse click in the Chart Trader area on a blank spot > Chart Trader Properties...
• Under the General"section > What is the ATM Strategy Selection Mode set to?

Thank you for the follow up.


I would suggest to set your ATM Strategy Selection mode to "SelectActiveAtmStrategyOnOrderSubmission" as this will automatically select your active ATM Strategy when you enter an order. This would be the default setting upon initial NinjaTrader installation.

When using "DisplaySelectedAtmStrategyOnly", this mode will visually seperate all concurrent running ATM Strategies which will allow you to have multiple SuperDOM or Chart Trader windows open, tracking the same market but displaying different trade strategies.

Thanks, I'll give your suggestion a try.
May I assume that my ATM Strategy Selection Mode setting caused the wrong trade to partly close?

Another question: What can you comment on the procedure I used to place trades?
Any errors there that may have caused the issue?

Thank you for the follow up.


From the situation that was posted, it looks like you were trying to scale in/out of your previous position.

To scale in/out of a postion:


With your 'Active ATM Strategy' selected, set your order quantity to the desired value, then submit an order on the opposite side of the market.
When this order is executed, your position will be reduced and stops/targets will be adjusted to account for this change in position size.

I'm not sure we're on the same page here.
Here's what I'm trying to achieve:

• Determine the main trend on monthly
• Enter a trade in the direction of the trend at every round (.00) number on the same currency
• View the progress of each individual trade
• Exit individual trades at my discretion

I've noticed that SelectActiveAtmStrategyOnOrderSubmission visually bundles all individual trades to a single trade.
Now I'm not able to distinguish one trade from another.

That's why I chose to configure DisplaySelectedATMStrategyOnly in the first place...

I've just watched some videos on scaling in and out with Ninjatrader using the SuperDOM.
Secondly I've read about the FIFO option which happens to be unticked in my configuration.

I'll try that out along with FIFO ticked.
