    canceling bracket

    hi,

If i make a bracket order, in other words, i enter the market with a take profit and a stop loss. now suppose I want to stay in the trade, but want to leave my take profit open. So i just want to cancel the take profit. how can i do that?

now suppose i create a series of trailing stops, is it possible to modify them after i am in the trade?

    thanks,

    justme

Unfortunately you will have to cancel the brackets together. If you are using Chart Trader you can modify any of your orders just by clicking and dragging.

You would manually have to submit stop and limit orders. Please see the Help Guide for instructions on how to place the various order types in Chart Trader.

          Ray,

I must be missing something....if i cancel my bracket the only way i know to do to replace, say, a stop loss, is just to place another market order on the chart. right? Your link does not show me how to create another bracket. once i click on the "x" of the stop loss or take profit, the bracket is gone, but the order is still live and i see no way of making another bracket for that order - at least the same why i originally make the bracket?????

Also, what happens if i create a number of trailing stops just for a single trade (i don't make a template for it, bec it's trade specific). If i later choose to modify it, i can't see any why to do that. Not only that, but if i forget how i set my parameters, I can't see any way to retrieve them since i did not make a template out of it.

I hope you understand my questions and I appreciate your time.

To place a brcket order on a position that is alread open please follow these steps.

If you have an open position without a strategy, you need to add a limit and stop order to protect the position.
            • Set strategy to none
            • Right click in the CHart Trader and enable OCO order
            • Then place a limit order where you want to exit at a profit
            • Then place a stop order where you want to exit at a loss
            • Then right click again and disable OCO order

                Jessica,

That works.....what if I wanted to create a complex exit strategy for an open order w/o sl or tp.... since your directions mandate that "strategy" is set to "none," then i can't employ and strategy to an open order with no sl or tp, correct?

Is there a way of doing this?

You can only select a strategy before you place a trade. Once you are in an open position this is not an option.

ok, can I recommend this for a future release? there can be any number of reasons that someone may want to change a strategy ex post facto.

Thanks for the suggestion. We will add it to the list of future considerations.
