smtp problem ninja trader

    Hello robje737,

    I believe the issue is with your localhost smtp mail server.

    Are you able to send an email using outlook or any other mail client using this custom localhost smtp mail server?

      Chelsea,

      the localhost smtp server is built in our software. The same software is used in my other NT platform where it works correctly. That rules out a problem with our software.

      The message generating system in NT had a problem anyway, since it gave the message that emails were send correctly, while in fact there was a fault. You directed that problem to your IT department.

      Shall we start looking into NT to see if there is any bug?

        Hello robje737,

        Does this mean that you have tested the custom smtp server within your software using a mail client that is not NinjaTrader and found this to work successfully?

          Hi.

          Only the testmail with smtp.gmail.com did succeed.
          The other attempts with 127.0.0.1 setups didn't succeed.
          On our other cloudserver with ninja no problems.
          It looks like a problem in NT on this server
          What to do now?

            Hello,

            Please run the following commands in the command prompt:

            ping 127.0.0.1

            telnet 127.0.0.1 25


            After each of these commands please take a screenshot.

            To open the command prompt, click the Windows Start button, in the Search programs and files field type cmd and then press enter.

            To send a screenshot press Alt + PRINT SCREEN to take a screen shot of the selected window. Then go to Start--> Accessories--> Paint, and press CTRL + V to paste the image. Lastly, save as a jpeg file and send the file as an attachment.

              Hi,

              pictures attached

              1st picture is with ping
              second is with telnet.

              The line with 220 comes first, then 4 seconds later the line with 221 appears.

                From the second picture I am translating this message as "the connection to the host has been disconnected".

                This shows that the smtp server is not able to maintain a connection.

                To understand what should happen when you run that command, try the following command to see the correct behavior.

                telnet smtp.gmail.com 587

                This should connect and then stay connected, ensuring that there is communication between the client and the smtp server. Your smtp server is not able to maintain the connection. I recommend you look through any log files that are made by the smtp server to look for error messages.

                    This screenshot from your post 24 is showing an established connection with an smtp server without error.

                    I would now like to you to run the following command on the computer where NinjaTrader is using your custom smtp server software correctly. (NOT THIS COMPUTER, the computer where NinjaTrader is using your programs smtp server that you mentioned is working correctly)

                    telnet 127.0.0.1 25

                    Please send a screenshot of this.

                          Hi,

                          well, it did a little over a week ago.
                          Since then we did not have a trade and therefore no signalemail to our software from NT, so i can't be sure whether or not Ninja will send it correctly on the first server..

                            a few days ago, our software received a testmail form NT, so it looked correct last friday

                              Hi Rob,

                              Please try sending a test email.

                              To do this:
                              • Click Tools -> Options.. -> select the Misc tab
                              • Click the Test... button -> enter a recipient email address -> click OK


                              After this please take a screenshot of the Log tab.
