    NT7 Crashing When Scrolling Backwards in the Chart -- Possible Windows 8 Issue

    Hi there Ninjatrader team --

    I recently got a new laptop with Windows 8 installed on it. I transferred over all of my settings from my old computer, and now when I scroll too far back in the data I have on the chart, NT freezes and then Windows says NT is not responding. It doesn't respond so you have to close the program and open it back up again.

    I have no clue why it's doing this, I'm thinking it might possibly be a Windows 8.1 compatibility thing. Or it might just be a coincidence that it's on Windows 8.1 and that's not the problem.

    Any ideas on where to start to troubleshoot and possibly fix this issue? If you need anymore information just ask. Thanks so much as always.

    Update:

    It seems to only do this for SPY. I use IB and last night I loaded a bunch of SPY data from Kinetick. Maybe this data I downloaded isn't jiving well with something. Is there a way to reset all the data I have for SPY? That might fix it.

      Hello,

      Thank you for your note.

      We have many users that use Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 without any issues.

      Please use the steps I have provided below to delete your cache data:

      * Close NinjaTrader
      * Documents -> NinjaTrader 7 -> db folder -> cache folder
      * Select all folders within the cache folder-->Right mouse click-->Delete
      * Open NinjaTrader
      * Connect

      Open a new chart without any indicators or templates applied to see if you are able to load a chart.

        I deleted the cache and followed those instructions. It didn't seem to fix the problem.

        Any other instrument works fine --- except for when I load a SPY chart. Whenever I try to scroll far back in a chart in SPY it always freezes and crashes.

        Any other ideas?

          Hello,

          Is this using a new SPY chart without any templates or indicators applied?

            It's without any indicators and I used my default template -- however, a few months ago I accidentally saved over the default template, so it has some different coloring but that's about it. I personally do not believe there is any fault in any of the templates; I think it has something to do with some sort of "bad data" being a certain point back in the SPY, and when it tries to load it, it causes it to crash.

            This default template loads any other instrument just fine, and I can scroll backwards through the chart fine. If I then set the chart to SPY and try to scroll back through it, that's where the freezing and crashing comes.

            Hope this description helps a bit.

              Hello,

              Try deleting your SPY data that you have.

              Disconnect from your data provider -> File -> Disconnect -> your connection

              Tools -> Historical Data Manager -> Edit tab

              Select SPY -> Right click -> Delete.

              Restart NinjaTrader and reconnect.

                Wow... I really thought this one would work. Yet it still does it! Is there a way we can set up a teamviewer session so an NT support member can tinker with it?

                Either that or I can try anything else you suggest. This glitch is very strange.
