    Ninjatrader keeps Freezing

I am using NT 7.0.1000.21 and connecting with Continuum. Since last week I get randomly disconnected from the data feed, then when I try to reconnect or close NT the whole platform will freeze forcing a manual close with task manager. I am then forced to restart the computer and NT to connect again only to have the disconnect problem occur again most likely within a hour or so.

Anything I can do about this? I never had this problem before using my platform and indicators, it just seemed to start happening since last week. The first week on .21 and continuum I did not notice this problem.

I ruled out it being my internet connection as when I get disconnected, the Internet is still functioning on my computer. Is it a data feed problem or is it a platform problem?

The error I think that occurs in my log file when I get disconnected is

"Unable to load server side config file" the operation has timed out

      Hello,

      Thank you for your note.

We realize that lost connections can be frustrating. A connection state between NinjaTrader and your broker/market data vendor is not dictated by NinjaTrader. The NinjaTrader application only reports the connection state as it is reported by the API you are connected through.

NinjaTrader behaves like a radio receiver in that it receives signals from the connected server. If the signals are not coming through, the underlying broker/market data vendor API reports this to the NinjaTrader application which in turn reports this back to you. Once a loss of connection is reported, NinjaTrader or the underlying API will continuously try to re-establish a connection.

This can happen even while webpages are still able to load in a browser as webpages are not affected by latency but are instead affected from a complete internet connection loss.

Common reasons that contribute to connection stability are:
      • ISP issues
      • Hardware firewall changing IP addresses frequently
      • Dynamic IP addresses changing frequently intraday. Usually this happens once a week but you may want to check with your ISP. If they do change daily, requesting a static IP address may help.
      • Broker/market data servers may be experiencing temporary downtime

In order to help determine why this is occurring, can you give me more information regarding your internet connection?

Do you use a hardwired, or a wireless connection?

      Who is your ISP?

      Where are you located?

Using a wired ethernet connection with Rogers. Located near Toronto Ontario.

I usually never have this issue, it seems to have begun since last week.

          Hello Inferno30,

          Thank you for your reply.

Please run a ping test on pingtest.net. Let me know what the results are for the ping and jitter.

Someone on another forum told me to upate my .net framework, would that help?

Also my data feed connection has been good for the last hour and 20 minutes. No disconnect.

                Hello Inferno30,

Please run the ping test the moment you receive another disconnect.

Also, I do not agree that the .NET framework needs to be updated.

Ok the NT platform just froze again, I could not open a web browser to see the ping test as the platform froze the whole computer it seemed and force me to reboot.

Upon rebooting the ping test results were near the same

ping 31 ms and jitter is 2ms

                    same error occured at 12:47pm

"Unable to load server side config file" the operation has timed out

                      Hello Inferno30,

When NinjaTrader freezes are you able to force NinjaTrader to close using the Task Manager?
                      • Right-click the Windows Task Bar -> select (Start) Task Manager
                      • Select the Processes tab -> click the Image Name column head to sort by name
                      • Find and select NinjaTrader.exe -> click the End Process button

Do you experience any freezing issues with your computer when NinjaTrader is not running?

Does your computer meet the minimum requirements?
                      http://www.ninjatrader.com/installation-guide.php

I ask because NinjaTrader freezing should not cause your entire computer to freeze.

Yes I can close Ninjatrader by task manager, but it leaves my computer pretty messed up as no apps will open unless I now reboot. My computer meets the requirements it has 12gb ram, i7 3,40ghz, ssd harddrive. I also know it should not be my computer as I have been running NT7 on here for years with no problems like this.

The freezing seems to stem from the error in my log file stating

"Unable to load server side config file" the operation has timed out

what exactly does that error mean?

                            Hello Inferno30,

                            Thanks for your reply.

Applications being unable to open after NinjaTrader is fully closed could indicate issues with your computer. If this is the case I may recommend that you contact a computer repair specialist.

I would like to ensure that NinjaTrader has been fully closed when you perform a force close.

May I have a screenshot of the Task Manager showing the processes and another screenshot of the Task Manager showing the Performance after NinjaTrader has been forced closed?

To send a screenshot press Alt + PRINT SCREEN to take a screen shot of the selected window. Then go to Start--> Accessories--> Paint, and press CTRL + V to paste the image. Lastly, save as a jpeg file and send the file as an attachment.

                              Hello,

This error indicates that the server side config was not able to download from the NinjaTrader servers.

This error generally is only seen if you have lost connection to the internet.
The time out is saying that after a set amount of time your NinjaTrader platform was not able to connect to the NinjaTrader servers and has timed out.

However, your tests have indicated that you are not losing your connection to the internet...
