    Simulator connecting stuck

    I have been using Simulator/Ninjatrader for a while without problem. But today each time when I start "Simulated Data Feed" from File->Connect->Simulated Data Feed, the it stuck. I check the CPU usage as 25%. NinjaTrader hang until I kill it.

    I don't have problem to connect other real time such as IB. I also remove and re-install Ninjatrader and it didn't help.

    Need your suggestion to help on this. Thanks.

    Thanks for your post.

    So I may assist you further please answer the following.

    Is NinjaTrader freezing or is it just not updating data?

    Do you receive an error on screen? Are there errors on the Log tab of the Control Center? If so, what do these errors report?

    What is the size of your database file?
    You can check by opening the following directory in Windows
    Documents\NinjaTrader 7\db
    Right click on the ninjatrader.sdf file and select Properties

      NJ is freezing. On Screen, no error.
      From "Control Center", I don't see errors from "log" file. Only related msg are:
      Simulated Data Feed: Primary connection=Connecting, Price.feed=Connecting
      Connecting to Ninja data server(DS10.NinjaTrader.com/31654)

      I also checked database property, its size if 61M, seems OK.

      This happened after I add some code which entered too many orders, which may corrupt some database file or make it too large. Is there a way to clean DB?

        Thanks for your reply.

        Before looking into the database further please send me your log and trace files for today so I can verify the issue.


        You will find the log file on your PC in the (My) Documents > NinjaTrader 7 > Log folder.

        The log file will be named "log.20140224.txt"
        You will find the trace file on your PC in the (My) Documents > NinjaTrader 7 > Trace folder.

        The trace file will be named "trace.20140224.txt"

        Once located please send the files to support[at]ninjatrader[dot]com
        In the message put ATTN Brandon and include a link to this forum topic

          Here are the files you need:

          Trace file is too large to be loaded, so I copy the last reproduce of the problem at 12:00. This time frame covers the last attempt during a failed connection from simulator.

                Thanks for your reply.

                As a test, please take the following steps to force NinjaTrader to start without your saved workspace. You will have the option to reopen these after our tests.


                * Shut down NinjaTrader
                * Navigate to (My) Documents\NinjaTrader 7\workspaces
                * Delete the file named "_Workspaces.XML".
                * After deleting this file, restart NinjaTrader which should startup without any workspaces and connect to the simulated data feed.
                * Once NinjaTrader has started on just the control center, please open a new ES 03-14 chart with no indicators/templates and test for issue.
                * *Please note this will not delete your workspace however the new blank workspace will be named Untitled1. If you have a workspace already named Untitled1 however you will not want to save the workspace when exiting NinjaTrader, otherwise it will overwrite it.


                If there are no issues on this new workspace, please try opening the previous workspace by going to File--> Workspaces--> Open workspace.

                  After running the following steps and re-connecting Simulated Data Feeder, it is freezing again:

                  * Shut down NinjaTrader
                  * Navigate to (My) Documents\NinjaTrader 7\workspaces
                  * Delete the file named "_Workspaces.XML".
                  * After deleting this file, restart NinjaTrader which should startup without any workspaces and connect to the simulated data feed.

                      I experimented by renaming NinjaTrader db and it worked. So I believe this database has been corrupted. I will re-configure my workspace and everything which shouldn't take long time as I just started my coding. So I am all set. Thanks a lot for your help, Brandon.

                        I'm glad to hear that worked for you.

                        The database file includes – ATM Strategy templates, Session templates, Instrument Lists / Custom Instruments, historical trade execution data, and various other NinjaTrader things.
                        These are the items that will be lost/need to be redone.
