    trade management - interdependencies

    Hello,

I have my short trades in a strategy and my long trades in another strategy for better trademanagement of stops, targets and for better control.

When there is an entry long how can I do for exiting an existing short postiont and v v (so that there is only a trade in one direction)?

Couldn´t find a solution in the help sites.

    Thank you.

    Hello Tonynt,

Thanks for your post and questions.

With your strategies separated, it would seem the best solution is copy the opposite evaluation parts and put them in each other. For example, copy the parts of the long strategy that evaluate for a long entry condition and place them in the "short" only strategy, then allow that long entry logic to exit your short position. You would also want to test for being in the opposite position within each strategy (IE check for Long in the short only strategy. The only issue may be a matter of timing between the exiting of shorts and entry of longs.

Alternatively you could just create one strategy that can work long and shorts.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

      Hello Paul,

thank you for your reply. I appreciate that great support at NinjaTrader.

But this is not a good solution, as you might know.

And of course it´s possible to have long and shorts in one strategy, then I would have the question.

Another idea: isn´t it possible to close/exit all positions of an instrument? (as it is possible to close all positions of all instruments it shoudl be possible only to close all positions of an instrument)

      Thank you.
      Tony

        Hello Tony,

        Thank-you for the reply.

The strategy can only close what it sees as a position.

Please let me know if you have further questions.
