    Vix

Hi, can anyone tell me the proper mapping for the VIX in ninjatrader using TDAmeritrade?
    Thanks in advance
    I am connected to TDA
I get "no mapping defined for instrument"

Hope NT8 makes it easier to "map" whatever that is ??
cause if I am connected and chose something from the Instrument Manager should it not be built in and intelligent enough to map itself??????

    Hi newbie0101,

I'm not positive on this, but I think the mapping for TDA for the VIX index is VIX.X.

Hi Chelsea, thank you for responding but I guess I am lost as to you provide me with a link that shows the vix as $vix.x
Where do I put this in NT7?? and how meaning all steps to make it work?? In the instrument manager, which does bring me back to main point.
Why?? Do I have to research and find all of this when paying for a platform?? Should it not be (expected) to do this automatically?
Thanks in advance for any help

need pics and step by step, sorry for but.........

Do you know how the instrument manager works?

I just checked on my tda/nt and it is $vix.x.

Most symbols have been set in the instrument manager. It is virtually impossible for each provider to be pre-set.

So search on Vix and look at the symbol mapping for tda in the instrument manager and add it to your symbol lousy.

          Hello,

NinjaTrader comes pre-loaded with the most commonly traded instruments however, you may find the need to add an additional instrument.

There is no centralized NinjaTrader server that has this instrument information. All pre-loaded symbols are included with the NinjaTrader installation media.
Having every instrument available to every broker and data provider would create a very large database making the installation package for NinjaTrader quite large.
Also, new instruments are introduced to exchanges often and it would not be possible to continuously have all NinjaTrader users upgrade NinjaTrader everytime a new instrument is added to any exchange for all brokers and data providers.

Instead, we allow new instruments to be added by the user as needed.

To modify the symbol mapping for the VIX instrument:
          • Click Tools -> Instrument Manager
          • Search for VIX
          • Click Edit
          • Select the Misc tab
          • In the Symbol Mapping section add VIX.X to the entry for TD Ameritrade
          • Click OK

Hi Chelsea, no offense, but sounds like a copout, the VIX is very popular and as I recognize for every broker could be a different symbol. As far as size of NT c'mon adda few hundred Mbytes and done. Not like it takes what you lead to believe some extraordinary space to include txt files with the according symbols, files,, etc..

                    Hi newbie0101,

If that does not work, try $VIX.X.

The $ may make a difference.

Dont't get me wrong should be simpler for user to just enter symbol and NT take care of rest.
