    Missing Data in CL Continuous chart

    For backtesting, I have been using a continuous CL chart 1440M chart (where each bar is essentially one day). The data range was 7/24/2010 - current date 2014. Recently, after months of using this chart, all of a sudden the data quit at 5/20/2014. I've tried reloading historical data and repairing the data base, to no avail. I also downloaded the missing 1M data from eSignal from 5/20/14 forward and reimported it into NT. I can successfully create a 1M non continuous chart, with 1M data after 5/20/14, but:

    1. The CL continuous 1440m chart still stops at 5/20/14
    2. I cannot even create a NEW CL continuous chart with data after 5/20/14
    3. I can create a NEW CL continuous chart with data prior to 5/20/14

    It's like the world ended for continuous CL charts on 5/20/14.

    I also upgraded to release 23...no change.

    At this point, I am stuck....any ideas?

    Thank you for your forum post.


    What is your Merge Policy set to?
    • Control Center > Tools > Options...
    • Data tab
    • Merge Policy > If not set to "MergeBackAdjusted" then I would suggest to set to this option.
    • Click "OK" when finished.



    If this does not help to resolve the situation, you can troubleshoot further by upgrading the latest release 7.0.1000.25:


    Please upgrade with the steps provided below. With this procedure you will not lose any Workspaces, Charts, etc. You will need to copy your license key from Control Center > Help > License Key...
    • Close all running applications.
    • Make sure NinjaTrader is closed from the Windows Task Manager:
      • Press CTRL + ALT + DEL on your keyboard > Start Task Manager...
      • Processes tab
      • Locate and highlight "NinjaTrader.exe" > Click "End Process"
      • If NinjaTrader is not located on the Processes tab, skip this step.
    • Then from the Start menu select --> Control Panel --> Add and Remove Programs or Programs and Features
    • From Add and Remove Programs select NinjaTrader 7 and click Remove.

    Once these steps are completed, download and install NinjaTrader 7.0.1000.25 from the link below:

      I've had the instrument merge policy for CL set to "MergeNonBackAdjusted", which has been working quite fine as all the months of data come in as their original contract data would appear. The merge policy from tools/options/data is also set to MergeNonBackAdjused. This is the policy I need for my trading system.

      I am currently running release 25 (just installed earlier today), however, when I installed it, I did not 'Remove NT" via the window cp, I just backed up all the critical files for the previous release.

      So, any further ideas? At what point do I reset my DB, and then start over reloading (now 4 years) of historical data for CL?

        Thank you for the follow up.


        Who do you connect to within NinjaTrader? Are you connected to eSignal?


        You will only need to reset your database file if you are having trouble loading items in NinjaTrader or if the database file size get's very large.

        You can troubleshoot this situation by repairing your database file first before resetting or renaming it:
        • Disconnect from any data providers
        • Control Center > Tools > Options...
        • Data tab > Click on "Repair DB"
        • Restart NinjaTrader
        • Retest CL ##-## past May 20th, 2014



        Another test you can make is to delete your cached chart data and then re-download the data:
        Please use the steps I have provided below to delete your historical data:
        • Close NinjaTrader
        • Documents
        • NinjaTrader 7
        • Open the db folder
        • Delete the Cache folder
        • Restart NinjaTrader
        • Connect and retest CL ##-## past May 20th, 2014
