Disable/Enable strategy and continuing position

Hi,

I was wondering how Ninjatrader handles the situation in automated trading where it has opened a position, the strategy is disabled for some reason (i might have to restart the server) and then enabled again.

I think I've seen that Ninjatrader does not pick of where it left off. So the position is still open at the broker, but Ninjatrader doesn't show the open position in the Strategies overview page. I t waits for the position to be cleared and then opening new positions.

How is the suggested way of working in this case. I can imaging also the situation where the internet connection might be temporarily unavailable. Does strategies get disabled then or just greyed out?

Any help on this would be appreciated. I'm at the point of going live with my system but would like to know some final issues.

Hello siroki,

The settings at Control Center-->Tools-->Options-->Strategies-->NinjaScript-tab are important in this regard. You can select either 'Wait until flat before executing live' or 'Immediately submit live working historical orders'. Together with the 'Synch account position' (located in the strategy settings when you enable a strategy), it determines how the strategy will behave on startup. During a disconnection, the settings under 'On connection loss' are important. Please see the following link under 'Understanding the NinjaScript tab'.

When my NinjaScript strategy is set to submit an ATM strategy, the setting 'Immediately submit live working historical orders' is not submitting an order. But when the strategy is set to submit an unmanaged order and 'Immediately submit live working historical orders' is set, an order is immediately submitted.
Should 'Immediately submit live working historical orders' have an affect when a strategy is submitting an ATM?

Thank you for your post.

It should not have a different effect on the behavior either way. However, when you enable the strategy it's ATM Strategy position is not reported for the strategy.So the orders are only going to show on the Orders tab and the positions on the Positions tab.
