Adding ES ##-## to the insturment list

I have a demo account with NT and I wanted to do some backtesting by creating a continuous contract with name ES ##-##.

But for some reason I am not able to add it to the master instrument list.

    I am doing the following:
Tools > Instrument Manager > New Master Instrument and type in the name ES ##-## > OK

And I get the following error message:
The 'Master Instrument' field can only hold letters and digits and underscores.

Can someone please tell me what am I doing wrong here?

Very much appreciate your help in advance.

    Hello pandyav,

The ES is already in the Master Instrument List.

I think you are wanting to add the ES ##-## to the Default Instrument List on the left (for the instrument drop-down on a chart).

    To add this:
    • Search for the ES in the name field of the Instrument Manager
    • Select the ES future search result row
    • From the 'Expiry:' drop-down select ##-## (its at the bottom of the list)
    • Click the left facing solid arrow
    • Click OK

        Thanks ChelseaB.

I was able to add ES ##-## to the instrument list and have data file I downloaded from an online forum in .txt format. I renamed the data file to ES ##-##.txt to match with the instrument name and tried to download data using Historical Data Manager > Import.

Here are the settings I had while trying to import the data:
Format: NinjaTrader (timestamps in import file(s) represent end of bar time)
        data type: Last
time zone of imported data: Central Time

And I get the following error message in the log window:
ES ##-##: Import field separator could not be identified.

Can you please help me to understand how to fix the issue??
        Thanks!

          Hi pandyav,

The filename should be ES ##-##.Last.txt.

Does the data in the file follow the format for importing files as outlined in our help guide?

See the section 'Understanding import file and data formats'.

Thanks ChelseaB, no it does not. The data was downloaded using QCollector but it is simply a flat file. It is not in the format you mentioned below. Is there a way for me to convert it to NT format?

              Hi pandyav,

I'm not aware of a way to convert text file contents.

You may try a find and replace in a text file editor.

Adding stocks with SDB in its ticker name

                Hello,

I am trying to add stocks from the swedish exchange index. I have a problem with those with SDB in its ticker name for exampel PXXS.SDB.ST (BLACKPEARL RESO SDB). But with AOI.ST (Africa Oil corp.) everything works fine. I can add the the stock Lundin Mining Corp. in TSX (Toronto) LUN.TO but not LUMI.SDB.ST from the swedish index.

Error message: "Problem retreiving data from Yahoo"

                What is wrong?

                Sincerely
                Douglas

                  Hello Douglas,

This is an unrelated issue to this thread.

However, I think the information you are looking for can be found here.
