    Red X

    What does this mean - see attached. It occurred after running a backtest where earlier instances of the same backtest did not have this problem.

    NinjaTrader is in an unknown state. Restart it.

        Then it means that one, or the interactions of more than one, of your classes is causing the problem. The only way to troubleshoot is to start with a clean slate and add back the indicators/strategies until you isolate the culprit.

        The easiest way to start clean is to remove or rename the ...\workspaces\_Workspaces.xml file under your NT user directory after shutting down NT, then restarting NT.

          Thank you koganam,

          The culprit seems to be The NT Parameter "Exit on Close" in the Strategy Analyzer. Where the confusion arises in that I have performed thousands of backtest with this strategy and never experienced this problem and no code has changed for my NT Script.

          I even reinstalled and the same problem exists.

          So...If I set Order Handling > Exit on Close to False it works OK. When I set it to True the Red X returns. After that point even when I return the value to False the Red X persists.

            Hm. That is certainly a strange one, and would point to a snafu in NT itself. Did you reinstall over the top or did you uninstall then reinstall?

              Thank you again. I uninstalled and then installed with a fresh download. I did do a backup first. Would that leave mal-remnants?

                Typically that resolves just about all issues with NT itself.

                  Retrofx,

                  Please check the templates folder for any strategy templates and delete them
                  (My) Documents -> NinjaTrader 7 -> templates -> Strategy
                  Delete any files in this folder and restart NT and try the backtest

                    Thank you for the answer. There were no files in the ...templates>Strategy folder. I uninstalled NT, manually deleted any remnants, backups, checked Registry and then installed a fresh copy. When I try to backtest using weekly charts and the Close on Exit feature the Red X returns.

                    How do I debug this? I spent several hours doing all of this and then downloading data again, and organizing my files.

                              Can you please sending them in manually?

                              You can find them under (My) Documents -> NinjaTrader 7 -> either Trace or Log

                              I will need to the files for the most recent occurrence that you had this Red X
