high volume - data - CPU

    Hello,

I have some issues with my computer when there is high volume in the market it seems or markets move fast or something like this.

When I click on the charts or control center, there is a delay in everything.

Can this be possible that high volume/fast data..... is more CPU intensive than "normal" markets?

Or should I restart NT after few hours maybe?

(I have about 30 charts open on 2 screens)

    Thank you
    Tony

    Hello tonynt,

    Thanks for your post.

Yes, volatile markets will result in more performance being used by your system. I would recommend reviewing the performance Tips section of our help guide for ideas on how to reduce the load.

What is Windows task manager reporting? The graph of your cpu usage. The look in processes for NinjaTrader. Is it 60% cpu usage? Using 1 gb of memory?

        Hello,

        thank you for your reply.

In taskmanager there is 1.886.500K and CPU usage varies between 12% and shortly in between 45%(?) Norton shows all the time about 13%.

        4.00 GB RAM I have.

        Thank you.

          Hell Tony,

          Thanks for your reply.

When you go to the Performance Tab how many cores show? See how 2 is shown in the attached image.

You must not have read all the complaints about that resource hog called Norton. Just for grins and giggles, see if it is not set to examine all files that are being written. If it is, just think how much data NT is writing to the "db" directory where it is storing the price data. Try excluding that directory from Norton's onerous oversight. 13% when idle? Indeed!

                Hello tonynt,

                Thanks for your reply.

Since most items, such as charting are single threaded this means that if you look at the Process tab and see NinjaTrader running at 13% then it is using the full power that it can from your processor.
                1/8=.125
12.5% would be 1 core of the 8

And what does this mean please? Remove charts?

                  Thank you

                    Hello Tony,

                    Thank you for your reply.

If NinjaTrader is running 13% on your Processes tab, it's using the maximum amount of CPU that it can. I would recommend reviewing the Performance Tips section of our help guide for ideas on how to reduce the load, and apply these changes to your workspace as you see fit.

                      Hello,

                      thank you for your reply.

But this I do not understand. My CPU shows also 27% or more. How can this be when 13% is the maximum. And can I verify how much CPU NinjaTrader takes? It seems there is shown only the total use, no?

And referring optimizing. Is it OK to change "print" to "//print" or do I have to remove the lines in the scripts?

                      Thanks
                      Tony

                        Hello Tony,

                        Thanks for your reply.

Within the Process tab you would need to look at just the CPU usage that NinjaTrader is using. This is where you would see if just NinjaTrader was using 13%.
It is possible for NinjaTrader to use more when doing tasks such as backtesting for example.
Commenting out the prints is fine.
You will need to review the performance tips section to see about possible things to change and find the right balance between what you need for your trading and performance.
