Purpose of Historical Data download feature?

I don't understand what is the purpose of historical data download feature? I have downloaded ES historical data for past couple of years. It can't be use for Market Replay (I have to download each day data separately to run Market Replay).
Can anyone explain what is the use of historical data? and how can I use it efficiently?

Also, How can I retrieve past five years data to run backtest/Optimization? I have currently demo account with Continuum connection.

The purpose of the historical data download is to download certain days and/or instruments. This also allows you to select what type of data: tick, minute or daily, and what kind of price: Last, Bid, and Ask.

Historical data is used to backfill charts for price data from the markets. These are used to identify certain patterns and see trends from over time.

As for 5 years of data, some instruments, such as ES and CL, you might be able to get 5 years back of intraday data, but it is not guaranteed.
